In February, we brought you The Picnic, which showed you how there is no real "off season" in the Mentawais with incredible empty waves in February. Now, in an equally impressive fashion, in April we set sail (well, motor) for SUMO'S REVENGE!! Sumo (a.k.a. Dave Keagy) is one of our long-time return customers, and it's only appropriate that if we were to find waves that rivaled The Picnic, it would be on his trip. Dave has been traveling with us for 5 years and has scored waves from the Northern Aceh regions to way south of the Mentawais, but this definitely rivals any score we've had over that time. By utilizing constant information on the swell through our home base at the Hotel Batang Arau, Christina let us know that we had a great swell coming from the right angle for Lance's Right. We also had radio contact with some other boats and through our experience saw what was happening with the movement of the other charter boats out at that time. Scuzz, Sumo, and the gang motored through the night to be on the right first light and scored. These photos show you our results:

This first picture looks like an empty gaping barrel, but it's actually one of the best tubes of Scuzz's life. He`s way back inside, hidden by the spit, about to come flying out. That's what 7 years experience surfing Sumatra's outer islands can do for you.

The guys had scored all morning. The waves were incredible, but as the tide drained and the reef went dry inside they left it to Scuzz who was in heaven. These sort of days are special, even for someone who's out here 11 months a year. If you look closely, you can see a tiny spec on the bottom right part of the peak - that's Scuzz, sizing it up.

That explosion on the outside is a ramp that lets you in behind the double up for a full-on backdoor. Just don't get caught inside or blow the drop.

These next two photos are two shots in a sequence of Scuzz. The waves were absolutely epic. This was later in the arvo, barrel #35 for the day.

The final shot was taken on a day which saw 7 boats at Maccas. They surfed this wave going off with 5 other guys. Long long walls.

We at Sumatran Surfariis pride ourselves on that fact that we can get you the best possible waves with the least amount of crowds, and we're happy to show you some photos that prove it. We always strive to get you the best possible waves by yourselves, but we realize that you don't travel halfway around the world to skip some all of the big name spots, either. We try to get those spots with minimal crowds, as well, and sometimes we succeed at getting them all by ourselves (as shown above). We always have the passenger's best interest in mind, and we are confident that all of our guides can bring you the best possible surf trip.

Terima Kasih!
