MENTAWAIS The second leg of the Slayer Surfariis was to the good ol' Ments in October - November of 2005. This trip was sort of the exact opposite of the first leg: it was an interesing mix of nationalities, and no one had more than one co-pilot with them on this trip. We had Seangelina Jolie and The Predator from South Africa (although Seangelina is spending most of his time in Dubai and I believe The Pred in London), we had Kong and Mahi Mahi from the Gold Coast, Greybeard from New Zealand, and Slayer from the States. It was a nice small group of 6, so it was great to have some extra room and time in the lineups and on the boat to get to know some new friends. And as you can see from the photos, we were at no shortage for waves in the "off season". On this second leg, we had our own guide Aki acting as a photographer. What you'll see below is just a taste of all the photos he took, and what you might expect if he guides one of your trips. It's sort of a photo journal of an entire trip, and even with as many photos as you'll see below, it's probably less than half of the overall photos he took. Also, these were the days that were shootable: many of the days in the late season are rainy, which is great for your skin, but not so hot for photos. But everyone was super happy with the mix of sequences and creative single shots. Just a footnote: this is the type of work you can expect from Aki when he guides your boats, and it's actually MUCH, MUCH better in person. Even the enlarged photos are about 1/20th of the size and quality of the originals, so you can take any of the photos and blow them up into a poster if you wanted. He's a sick, sick photographer, and for a very small fee, he can provide an insane photographic diary of your trip. Also, Aki is an amazing host and a great guy, and we had a slideshow almost every night. It's a great way to wrap up the day with dinner and photos recapping the day.
