For
those of you who are still convinced that there
is an "off season" in the Mentawais, we humbly submit these
photos. While this partner was stuck updating webpages while freezing
cold storm surf loomed outside, Scuzz and the old salts were out enjoying
themselves on the brief, but highly rewarding, "Three Princes
Tour". These photos were taken on or around February 17, 2004,
providing further evidence that it is quite possible to score incredible
waves in the Mentawais with virtually nobody out. Similar opportunities
are likely in the late season, so start blocking off your calendars.

When
I first looked at this photo, I thought it was airbrushed or something.
Look at the offshore wind and how perfect it is. Flawless, flawless,
flawless - arrrghhh!

The
only thing that quells my jealousy about this photo is making fun
of Scuzz's haircut. But making fun can only carry me so far. Eraserhead,
with truly a whopper of a yellow fin.

Just
in case you thought the first shot was trick photography or something,
here's a better look at the whole picture. Snap under the lip and
stall, or go up hard and wham the crispy - take your pick. The canvas
looks pretty wide open to me.

This
is Mickey the eagle. Poor Mickey got hungry and had taken a hook from
these local fishermen while they were trolling nearby. The fishermen
kept Mickey on the boat for one week, while he waited (patiently,
as you can see) to be rescued. After a little bribing with cigarettes
and a little loose change, they set Mickey free. Must have been a
good omen.

Whichever
of the princes this is, I'm not sure he's deep enough. Step it up
next time, ok Nancy Boy?

Ok,
now I'm just getting frustrated. You've got to be kidding me. The
aforementioned Eraserhead, pulling in cleanly, without a drop of water
out of place.
Believe
it or not, there are still a couple slots open for this early season
on Afrika. There are more opportunities in the peak and late season,
but they are going fast, so lock in your dates now. We hope to see
you soon!
