Between Scuzz, Tom, and Seb, they have over 25 years experience pioneering the Sumatran islands, and they’ve chosen the location on Tua Pejat for a variety of reasons. First, it is only 5 minutes away from Telescopes, Icelands, Scarecrows and a handful of other rippable waves (click here for a few photos of nearby waves). Telescopes in particular tops many people’s Top 10 list of Most Rippable Waves on the Planet. The spots in this area tend to be more playful than scary, so they are also ideal for couples where one partner might be just learning while the other might really want to refine his or her skills. In addition, we are located a mere 50-minute speedboat ride to the Lance’s Left and Right (HT’s) region, and only 30-40 minutes to The Playground. There you can find waves of all types, from trickling little peelers to jaw-droppingly perfect heaving beasts that reel for 300+ yards. The speedboats are tied up to our own custom pier that leds up to the resort (click here for more photos of the pier and boardwalk).

On top of the well-known spots, there are a few spots available around our resort that you won’t have seen or heard of. Scuzz has surfed a right and a left in the area that both hold waves over three times overhead. There’s also a super long left, and an even longer super fast right. There’s a hollow right peak, a very rarely surfed long left, and a few other waves we wont talk about. But as guests of our resort you will be privy to these secrets. Another well traveled long-term Indo surfer Phil Goodrich will by your resident surf guide, and he’ll give you the inside track to surfing all these spots.

The other key factor to this location is the proximity to some of the most beautiful reefs and dive zones in the island chain. Dive trips to this region are a relatively new thing, so you’ll be able to view reefs and the creatures of their habitat in a very pristine state. The water is crystal clear and the ocean is alive with a huge variety of different types of reef, vegetation, and sea life. Our Mondoblu Dive Centre comes complete with a full range of well-maintained, top quality dive gear. Our fully qualified Western dive instructor/master is capable of up to taking classes of up to 8 students, so you actually have the opportunity of getting certified while on vacation in this beautiful land.

Another great thing about the location is close proximity to the Mentawai government’s base in Tua Pajet. Tua Pajet is the capital of the Mentawai Islands, so it is well connected with the Sumatran mainland by regular (and fast) ferry services. In addition, the Mentawai airport is located here, as are all the fresh produce and supplies we need. We have a great chef, so he crafts all these fresh veggies and fresh seafood into world class, high-energy meals for you every day.

The resort itself consists of 7 large air-conditioned double bungalows, plus 1 even larger family (or group) bungalow, each with their own private rear courtyard (click here for more photos of the rooms interior and exterior). The use of local hardwoods is abundant throughout the bungalows, and each room includes a spacious bathroom tiled with Esenza granite with a hot water shower inside AND an additional outdoor shower for that true island experience. Each bungalow has a front terrace that overlooks approximately one kilometer private beach exclusive to Aloita (click here for more photos of your private beach and private access). The Spa, which is the first of its kind in the Mentawais, is equipped with 3 treatment rooms backing onto an enclosed waterfall and fishpond. The sounds of water splashing over the rocks will glide you into a deep relaxation during your massage or other spa treatment. We will also soon be incorporating a yoga base with traveling instructors, which is a perfect fit for this relaxing environment. Our rotunda bar has a front deck which projects over the water at high tide and comes complete with chill out lounges, cool tunes, a wide range of beverages and barsnack menu (click here for more photos of the rotunda bar). Reports from our early guests are saying, “it’s like a 5 star hotel”, with the bungalows, food, restaurant/bar, and speedboats being way beyond expectation.
